Letter to the editors: A better term for gun control
Regarding the Nov. 12 story, “Lewiston on growing list of places living with gun trauma,” and the many recent articles regarding the horrific killings in Lewiston, can we please at the very least change the language from “gun control” to “gun safety”? Gun safety. Gun safety. Gun safety. Language matters. Ellen Boyle Cape Elizabeth
Letter to the editor: Let Lewiston tragedy be a force for good
Urging all people with common sense in Maine – Democrat, Republican, independent or not interested in politics – to call Rep. Jared Golden and express support for his commitment to gun safety. On Oct. 19, 12 days following the Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel, newly installed Bowdoin College President Safa Zaki sent an email to the Bowdoin College community explaining the lack of an institutional statement on the matter. As noted in a Bowdoin Orient student newspaper article, Zaki “declined to give a specific position on the […]
Letter to the editor: Wrong to take sides in Gaza conflict
Any solution will be complicated and test the strength of our humanity, but simply defending one side or the other is not the way forward.
