Maine Observer: Greater Portland Metro passengers make gratitude a habit

Kindness is contagious. In the community of bus riders, nothing is more natural than saying ‘thanks.’

The Portland area’s regional transit system is an uncoordinated patchwork of seven agencies operating their own train, bus and ferry services.

Ridership on the region’s largest public transit system has grown by 45% since 2013.

Three towns north of Portland have agreed to provide annual funding to Metro’s Breez service, which carried more than 70,000 passengers last year.
