An attorney for the governor writes in a filing in federal court that he will file a motion to dismiss the case brought by the Democratic House speaker.

In a letter to Attorney General Janet Mills, three Democrats and an independent say the governor has abused his power and they want a determination of whether he committed a crime.

An inquiry found his funding threat led Good Will-Hinckley to rescind a job offer to the speaker. The governor’s spokesman calls it ‘political witch hunt.’

The House speaker intends to accuse the governor under state law, in addition to federal law, of intimidating the school’s board into firing him as president.

Those accounts don’t square with Good Will-Hinckley officials’ testimony to the Legislature’s Government Oversight Committee.

They’ll be among nine witnesses as lawmakers pursue more facts about the governor’s intervention in Good Will-Hinckley’s attempt to hire Mark Eves.
