Special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation of efforts to overturn the 2020 election results is advancing on multiple tracks, people familiar with the matter say.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon earlier this week set an initial trial date of Aug. 14 for Trump, who faces 37 felony counts accusing him of illegally hoarding classified documents and obstructing Justice Department efforts to get them back.

Unless the case has been ‘entirely disposed of’ before then, a judge wrote, E. Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump will go to trial Jan. 15.
