John Wolfgram, Maine’s winningest high school football coach, dies at 77

Wolfgram won 10 state titles and 309 games in a storied coaching career at Madison, Gardiner, South Portland and Cheverus.

As the spotlight around her grew, the nationally regarded prospect delivered again and led the Stags to the Class A South final.

All four state champions are represented on this list that includes six seniors, six juniors and a pair of sophomore pitchers.

Three players from Class A champion Windham are among the list of area standouts.

These 12 players impacted games in various ways, from scoring goals to grabbing loose balls, controlling draws and making defensive stops.

State finalists Freeport, Kennebunk, Mt. Ararat and Windham all have two players on the list.

Five seniors are among the top eight girls tennis players in the state.

Four of the area’s best players helped Falmouth win the singles, doubles and team state titles.

All eight players reached the quarterfinals of the state singles tournament.

Two players from Class A champion Falmouth are included among the area’s best players.
