It is sad news that Susan’s Fish-n-Chips, on Forest Avenue in Portland, is closing. This was one of the few places that “working people” could take their family out to eat for a reasonable price. Susan’s always had excellent quality at a fair price. It will be missed. Warren GraumannCumberland Foreside

Hamas’ slaughter must not be minimized | Letter
On Oct. 4, 2025, days before the second anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, this opinion section published a letter minimizing Hamas’ brutal slaughter of 1,200 innocent concertgoers. The fact that Hamas raped hundreds of women, beheaded babies and took elderly people hostage on Oct. […]
Maine would be foolish to turn against Jared Golden | Letter
Some Maine Democrats are celebrating that Rep. Jared Golden faces a primary challenge. They’re making a dangerous mistake. Available polling shows Golden narrowly beating Paul LePage, while his challenger, Matt Dunlap, loses by 10 points. If Golden loses the primary, Paul LePage will represent Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. I disagree with Golden on many issues. […]
Let’s explore presumptive equal care in Maine | Letter
I’m in the process of putting together a team to look at what making Maine the next “presumptive equal care state” would look like. Many states use a “best interests of the children” criteria, and divorcing or separating Maine parents are required to mediate custody before going to trial. Judges will be the first to […]

How about Mainers? […]

Call Trump’s actions what they are | Letter
On Aug. 20, 2024, the Lewiston Sun Journal published my letter titled “Twenty reasons to reject a candidate.” Last June 18, it published my op-ed citing the letter: “Tragically for America, most of these reasons have come to pass.” The core reasons were “Attempted overthrow of the U.S. government (normally called treason),” “Ignores governance to […]
Looking for answers on police use of force in Maine | Letter
There have simply been too many instances of wrongful use of force by the police to ignore.
Trump not the Christian leader some hoped he might become | Letter
It must be true there are a number, if not many Christians today, who in the privacy of their hearts have come to realize the president they helped elect is not the Christian leader they envisioned, or hoped might become. When they see the litany of things he has said which contradict the most fundamental […]
Questions remain about Portland Housing Authority director’s resignation | Letter
More light needs to be shed on turmoil at the agency.
