CHEBEAGUE ISLAND — Chebeague Island residents voted to have the Board of Selectmen continue discussing construction of a parking lot near the Stone Wharf.

Voters on June 9 approved the continuation of discussion 84-50. The results are non-binding, and will be used to guide the Board of Selectmen.

The Great Chebeague Golf Club has offered to donate land across from its sixth green so the town could build 40 parking spaces to serve the wharf. The town has been discussing the idea since last year, but haven’t determined a parking lot design or the cost to make the lot. The proposal has required negotiations between the golf club and the Holmbom family, who live adjacent to the proposed lot.

Races for seats on the Board of Selectmen and the School Committee were uncontested and each candidate was elected.

For the Board of Selectmen, newcomer Pete Pellerin was elected with 117 votes while incumbent David Hill, who’s held his seat for six year, was re-elected with 101 votes. There were 38 blank votes and several write-in candidates, who each received a couple of votes.

For the School Committee, newcomer Jeffrey Putnam was elected with 129 votes, and incumbent Jennifer Belesca was elected to her fourth term with 126 votes. There were 13 blank votes and two write-in candidates, who each received one vote.
