CAPE ELIZABETH — Superintendent of Schools Meredith Nadeau is one of three finalists for the school chief job in Weston, Massachusetts.

Nadeau on Thursday toured the district and spent the day meeting parents, community members, students, and faculty. The day ended with an interview with the Weston School Committee.

According to the district’s website, a new superintendent will be chosen in a meeting on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 8 a.m.

The other two finalists for the position are Thomas Campbell, director of human resources for the Needham, Massachusetts, public schools, and Jennifer Fischer-Mueller, deputy superintendent in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Nadeau has been superintendent in Cape Elizabeth since July 2011. Prior to that, she worked as director of instruction at the Oyster River Cooperative School District in Durham, New Hampshire. She has also been a teacher and a principal.

Nadeau holds a master’s degree in special education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration, both from the University of New Hampshire. She is working towards a doctorate in special education at Boston University in May 2016.

Nadeau was not available to answer questions about her decision to seek new employment, but her application is available on the Weston Public Schools website

“Weston is a high-performing district in a community which is willing to provide appropriate resources to support education for its children,” Nadeau said in the application. “At the same time, it expects strong performance.”

She went on to say that she’s qualified for the position because Cape Elizabeth is also a “high-achieving” district.

The Weston school district has five schools with enrollment of about 2,200 students. There are three schools and more than 1,600 students enrolled in Cape Elizabeth public schools.

According to a report in the Weston Town Crier, Weston’s current superintendent, Cheryl Maloney, is retiring in June. She has worked in the district for almost 30 years and has been superintendent since 2008.

No one from the Weston School Committee, the group in charge of the superintendent search, was available for comment.

Nadeau is not the only superintendent from the area who has recently looked for a new job in Massachusetts. Last month, Scarborough Superintendent George Entwistle III was a finalist in Lexington, Mass., where he was not offered the job.
