Western Class A FinalTwo QBs, and one final meeting

As two of the top quarterbacks in the state and Fitzpatrick Trophy candidates, seniors Jamie Ross of Deering and Peter Gwilym of Cheverus have a lot riding on the Western Class A championship game Saturday.

They’ll be front and center. With nearly all football games, the outcome usually comes down to how the team performs and not just how the two star players perform. Still, there’s a good chance one or both of them will have a say in the final score.

Yarmouth proves a hit

YARMOUTH – Early in the second half Friday night, running back Josh Allen of Oak Hill shouted to his teammates.

“Now that’s the way we should sound,” he said, talking about the crack of Yarmouth’s shoulder pads as the Clippers delivered another hard hit.

Allen couldn’t rally his team, nor could Oak Hill emulate the sound of those crunching hits.

Top-ranked Yarmouth simply had too much for the fifth-seeded Raiders and advanced to its second consecutive Western Class C final with a 28-7 victory.
