Boys’ Basketball: Bulldogschange gears, finish off Red Riots

SOUTH PORTLAND — Portland won its fourth straight game and beat South Portland for the second time this season with a 59-54 win in an SMAA boys’ basketball game Tuesday night at Beal Gym.

Seventh-ranked Portland (10-7) trailed early but soon took the lead for good. Fourth-ranked South Portland (12-5) cut it to three points late in the game, but the Bulldogs followed with four straight points in the final minute.

On Jan. 19, the Bulldogs beat the Red Riots in a three-overtime thriller, 80-71.

Faithfull back in Mainefor prep school tourney

Indiana Faithfull, who led Cheverus High to the Class A state basketball title last season after receiving a court injunction to put aside an ineligibility ruling imposed by the Maine Principals’ Association, will return to play in the state tonight.

Faithfull will play for St. Thomas More prep school in Bridgton Academy’s Wolverine Winter Classic in North Bridgton.
