Portland Pirates:Too few players, plenty of heart

PORTLAND — The undermanned Portland Pirates, backed a solid performance by goalie Jhonas Enroth, gutted out a 2-1 win against the Norfolk Admirals Tuesday night.

Derek Whitmore matched his career high for goals in one season and Mark Mancari extended his points streak to 12 games as the Pirates skated to their fourth consecutive win, before 3,285 people at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Third is the charm for Riots

South Portland played one of its best third periods of the season Thursday night to skate to a 4-1 victory against archrival Portland in a Western Class A schoolboy hockey game at the Portland Ice Arena.

The Riots limited the Bulldogs to two shots on goal in the final period to improve their record to 4-4-1.
