A visiting team hits a walk-off homer to end a suspended game before a Dogs victory.
Kevin Thomas
Kevin Thomas does not always write about baseball. It just seems that way, starting with his early days covering spring training for the St. Petersburg Times, to his current role of bi-locating at both Hadlock Field and Fenway Park, reporting on the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox. In the off-season, he still writes about baseball, while venturing to hockey rinks and basketball arenas, especially when it comes to the University of Maine and local colleges. Thomas has received awards for his work, but his greatest prize is home, which includes one patient wife, nine children and an aging chocolate Labrador.

Once they finished discussing what […]

On Baseball: Bard’s a key to Sox bullpen
BOSTON – Daniel Bard’s gifted arm and effortless windup has him firing 100 mph fastballs. Add in a hard curveball and an occasional change-up, and Bard is Boston’s best bullpen option until the ninth inning (and maybe for the ninth, but that is a subject for another day). But don’t overdo it with Bard. If […]
Injury puts slight damper on Dogs’ day
Shortstop Jose Iglesias leaves the game with a hand injury, but Ryan Kalish gets five of Portland’s 17 hits.
This time, a bunt proves costly to Dogs
Portland loses its fourth straight game as New Britain scores the winning run on a two-out bunt.
On Baseball: Dice-K’s magic disappeared
BOSTON — The hapless Kansas City Royals jetted into town Thursday and you could sense the ambush being set up. Just when things are going well New England fans know the drill. Build up excitement for the home team, only to crash in unlikely fashion. Hockey fans experienced the ultimate tease with their Boston Bruins, […]
