Adrian Beltre, David Ortiz and Victor Martinez rank 1-2-3 in RBI for the Boston Red Sox, and Ortiz and Beltre are the only Boston players with more than 20 home runs. All three players could be gone in 2011. Beltre and Martinez, both 31, are free agents and seeking rich, multiyear deals. Boston has a […]
Kevin Thomas
Kevin Thomas does not always write about baseball. It just seems that way, starting with his early days covering spring training for the St. Petersburg Times, to his current role of bi-locating at both Hadlock Field and Fenway Park, reporting on the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox. In the off-season, he still writes about baseball, while venturing to hockey rinks and basketball arenas, especially when it comes to the University of Maine and local colleges. Thomas has received awards for his work, but his greatest prize is home, which includes one patient wife, nine children and an aging chocolate Labrador.

We tend to favor players closer to the majors, which explains why there are no Class A players in the top 15, and only one drafted player from 2010 on the list. Some batting statistics include […]

On Baseball: It’s never too early to start looking ahead to next year
Some thoughts with one season over at Hadlock, and another winding down at Fenway … WITH FIVE STARTING pitchers under contract next year, the Boston Red Sox look like they will be building on a solid foundation for 2011. But there are question marks. The fifth starter is Daisuke Matsuzaka — an obvious disappointment after […]
Scots notch another emphatic victory
Bonny Eagle strikes quickly both on the ground and through the air, routing Portland 55-20.
On Baseball: Pen was nothing to write about
BOSTON – Normally the sign that a team has backed away from the pennant chase is a deluge of rookies in the lineup. In the Boston Red Sox’s case, they brought 44-year-old Tim Wakefield out of the bullpen mothballs to make a start. Wakefield started on Aug. 25, but that was an emergency stint with […]
