Scarborough wins the West, using Devan Kane’s saves and Sarah Martens’ goal for a 1-0 victory.
Kevin Thomas
Kevin Thomas does not always write about baseball. It just seems that way, starting with his early days covering spring training for the St. Petersburg Times, to his current role of bi-locating at both Hadlock Field and Fenway Park, reporting on the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox. In the off-season, he still writes about baseball, while venturing to hockey rinks and basketball arenas, especially when it comes to the University of Maine and local colleges. Thomas has received awards for his work, but his greatest prize is home, which includes one patient wife, nine children and an aging chocolate Labrador.

To do so, […]

Struggling Red Claws get Joseph
PORTLAND – The Maine Red Claws have lost two straight games and 4 of 5. But good news arrived Wed-nesday. Forward Kris Joseph is expected to rejoin the team for the 7 p.m. game Thursday against the Springfield Armor at Springfield’s MassMutual Center. Joseph, 24, was the Boston Celtics’ second-round draft pick last year from […]
On Basketball: Defense rests at Celtics’ peril
BOSTON – Doc Rivers feared the Los Angeles Clippers scoring easy baskets. “You can’t let them get behind you,” Rivers said Sunday before his Boston Celtics played the Clippers at the TD Garden. “I’m sure every team goes in against them with that goal. Very few are successful.” For Rivers, the bridge between his players […]
On Baseball: Brentz has Will to succeed
Just follow Will Middlebrooks and you will find yourself a regular in the Boston Red Sox lineup. Piece of cake, right? These baseball prospects are robots after all. One talented player succeeds. Another one should be able to shine down the same path. Bryce Brentz, 24, listened to my tongue-in-cheek reasoning with patience. “I would […]
