Planned your Red Sox playoff party yet? Wondering if Boston can take the Dodgers in a best-of-seven in late October? Umm, I hate to interrupt. While I normally don’t buy into the usual New England angst around here when it comes to fans and their Red Sox, I need to interject a fact or two. […]
Kevin Thomas
Kevin Thomas does not always write about baseball. It just seems that way, starting with his early days covering spring training for the St. Petersburg Times, to his current role of bi-locating at both Hadlock Field and Fenway Park, reporting on the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox. In the off-season, he still writes about baseball, while venturing to hockey rinks and basketball arenas, especially when it comes to the University of Maine and local colleges. Thomas has received awards for his work, but his greatest prize is home, which includes one patient wife, nine children and an aging chocolate Labrador.
On Baseball: Despite so-so stats, Dempster hasn’t thrown Sox for a loss
BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox signed Ryan Dempster to a two-year, $26.5-million contract and he has responded with an 8-9 record and 4.79 ERA so far, in his first season. Rain plagued the Sea Dogs all year, but look at the bright side: 10 players promoted to Triple-A, with three ending up in Boston.
Sea Dogs final game rained out
Portland finishes with a 68-73 record.
On Baseball: Sea Dogs’ 2013 attendance lowest in 20-year history
Sunday’s sellout follows the Sea Dogs’ best August attendance in four years. But those numbers could not compensate for what has been the lowest average attendance in the team’s 20-year history.
Not such a dreamy day for Sea Dogs
A sold-out Hadlock crowd enjoys Field of Dreams Day, but Trenton clocks four homers in a 9-4 win.
Sea Dogs lose to Thunder, 9-4
Portland plays its final game of the season at 1 p.m. Monday at Hadlock Field.
On Baseball: Bogaerts biding time with Red Sox
BOSTON – He was sitting on a couch in the Red Sox clubhouse earlier this week, checking his phone for messages, when a reporter approached, wanting to ask a few questions. Xander Bogaerts smiled, stood, shook hands and hopped over to his locker. Soon the interview began in Spanish. When it concluded, Bogaerts bounced around […]
