HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL: Pearson, Lancaster important pieces for Richmond
The Bobcats hope for a half-court game to neutralize Washburn’s pressure defense. Alyssa Pearson and Ciarra Lancaster will be instrumental in that strategy. The two are bookends to 6-foot center Jamie Plummer, who has scored over 1,000 points in her career and is capable of taking over a game on her own.

EASTERN A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Coaches set an example
Bangor’s Katie Herbine is 23 weeks along and visibly showing her pregnancy while Cony’s Karen Magnusson is 17 weeks in and, although she looks close to the shape she was in during her playing days, she has made no secret of it. Their conditions have had little effect on their coaching, although Magnusson admitted to a little exhaustion early on.

EASTERN A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bangor a tall task for Cony
Neither Cony coach Karen Magnusson nor Bangor coach Katie Herbine is putting much stock in the regular season meeting between their teams on Jan. 4. But the fact remains that Bangor won 64-46 on Cony’s home floor and held a 51-24 advantage in rebounds. The teams play again tonight for the Eastern Maine Class A championship at the Augusta Civic Center and the thinking is Cony is a much improved team.

WESTERN D BOYS BASKETBALL: Ouellette brothers lead Forest Hills
Instead, brothers Brandon and Derick Ouellette stepped into the limelight. combining for 51 points in Forest Hills’ 78-50 victory. Brandon, the team’s sophomore point guard, connected on five 3-pointers and scored 19 points. Derick, a 5-foot-11 senior, did all his damage in the paint, scoring a career-high 32 points.
