A Kennebunk construction worker died Friday morning after falling off a porch roof.

The 56-year-old-man was standing on the roof of a farmers-style porch at 137 Summer St. when he stepped backward and fell to the ground, said police Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee. The man had been working on the roof of the house at the time.

Bean Burpee said he does not know how far the man fell. The man, whose identity was not released Friday, was pronounced dead at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

The Kennebunk Police Department and Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.
