TORONTO — The Kansas City Royals placed closer Wade Davis on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained right forearm.

The team called up right-hander Brooks Pounders from Triple-A Omaha.

Davis is 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA and 19 saves in 30 games. He is the third Royals All-Star from 2015 on the disabled list, joining third baseman Mike Moustakas (right knee) and outfielder Lorenzo Cain (left hamstring).

Pounders was 4-1 with a 2.80 ERA in 19 games at Omaha. To make room for Pounders on the roster, Kansas City designated minor league left-hander Tyler Olson for assignment.

Also, Manager Ned Yost said right-hander Yordano Ventura, who left Sunday’s start in the third inning after spraining his right ankle running the bases, will throw a side session Wednesday. Ventura remains on track to start Friday against Seattle.

YANKEES: New York recalled left-hander Chasen Shreve from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre and optioned right-hander Luis Cessa to its top farm club.

Cessa pitched two innings Monday in relief of CC Sabathia, and allowed three runs and five hits. Manager Joe Girardi said Cessa will work as a starter in Triple-A.

Shreve went 1-1 with a 5.21 ERA in 19 appearances before he went on the disabled list in May with a sprained shoulder joint. He was sent down after he was reinstated from the DL on June 19.

TIGERS: Detroit placed left-hander Daniel Norris on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.

Norris left Monday’s game against Cleveland in the third inning with the injury. Norris, who is 1-0 with a 4.85 ERA, was making his fourth appearance of the season with the Tigers.

Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann was placed on the 15-day DL on Monday because of a right neck strain. He’s 9-4 with a 3.95 ERA in 15 starts and leads the team in wins.

CARDINALS: St. Louis backup catcher Brayan Pena will undergo training in the Army Reserve in the offseason.

Pena, 34, defected to the United States from Cuba as a teenager and made the majors in 2005. He made the announcement on Twitter , saying he was “very proud” to get involved.

He won’t enlist in the Army Reserve because it could interfere with his major league career. He has missed much of the season with a knee injury.

PIRATES: Chicago police said they’re investigating an allegation of sexual assault against infielder Jung Ho Kang.

In a statement, police said a 23-year-old female reported being assaulted by Kang inside a hotel. A police spokesman said the Chicago woman met Kang through a dating app. Kang invited the woman to his hotel room June 17.

The woman said she blacked out, then drifted in and out as he sexually assaulted her.

CARDINALS: St. Louis placed slugger Brandon Moss on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle.

Outfielder Randal Grichuk was recalled from Triple-A Memphis.
