A 40-year-old man is facing a domestic violence terrorizing charge after allegedly threatening to kill his 13-month-old son.

Maine State Police and officers from the Cumberland Police Department were called to 438 Walnut Hill Road in North Yarmouth around 7 p.m. Sunday for a report of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance. When they arrived, police found that James Goodenow was threatening to kill his 13-month-old son, according to state police.

Police say the mother of the child, who is also Goodenow’s girlfriend, had been assaulted by Goodenow in the past and feared he was going to harm or kill her and the baby. Goodenow later admitted he was frustrated with the baby, police said.

When police told Goodenow he was going to be arrested, he immediately said he “was not going to jail” and began fighting with the troopers and officers on the scene, police said. A state police sergeant suffered an injury to his left eye during the altercation.

Police say Goodenow continued to be combative once he was in custody. He was taken to Cumberland County Jail and charged with domestic violence terrorizing, assault an officer, failure to submit to arrest and criminal mischief.
