BREWER — Maine State Police say a trooper was involved in a crash Wednesday in Brewer while responding to a call. It was the second crash in as many days in which a trooper and another driver were injured.
Police say Trooper Darren Vittum was responding to a domestic violence call when his cruiser collided with a car driven by Arthur Sites, 91, of Brewer just before 1 p.m.
Vittum was driving on North Main Street, with the cruiser’s lights and siren on, when Sites pulled out from Parkway North into the path of the cruiser, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the state police. The cruiser hit Sites’ car in the front driver’s side before stopping against a utility pole.
Both men were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where Sites was treated for a broken hip and Vittum was treated for bumps and bruises and released, McCausland said in a news release Wednesday night.
The crash happened a day after an Appleton woman suffered minor injuries when her car and a cruiser collided.
Police say Trooper Jeremy Wesbrock was responding to a crash in Searsmont and tried to pass a car driven by Lisa Ford, 52, just as Ford was turning into her driveway.
Police said the cruiser sideswiped Ford’s car and both vehicles ended up off the road.
