A short but intense band of thunderstorms that rolled through southern Maine on Friday afternoon caused damage in a handful of towns near Sebago Lake.

Chris Kimble, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray, said trees and power lines were down in Gorham, Windham and Gray, a tree fell through a roof in Gorham, and a flagpole snapped in North Windham.

The storms came through late Friday afternoon and had mostly moved offshore by 5:30 p.m.

“We’re still watching it as it travels up the coast, but there are no more active thunderstorm warnings,” Kimble said.

Winds reached a top speed of 51 mph at the Gray office, he said.

Central Maine Power Co. reported about 450 customers without power at 5:18 p.m. in Windham, Standish, Baldwin and Sebago. As of 10:40 p.m., 16 customers in Standish were without power.
