FORT KENT — Cape Elizabeth native Clare Egan finished fifth in the women’s mass start event on the last day of the U.S. Biathlon Championships at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center.

Egan, who hit 13 of 20 targets, finished the 12.5K race in 47 minutes, 47 seconds, which was 3:07 behind winner Annelies Cook, who missed just two targets.

Joanne Reid was second (45:02), Emily Dreissigacker third (45:56) and Hannah Dreissigacker fourth (47:05).

Egan, who finished first in the sprint and pursuit events earlier in the week, had single misses on her first two bouts, but missed three on her third and two on her final bout.

In the men’s mass start, Timothy Burke won the 15K race in 41:40, 1:28 ahead of runner-up Sean Doherty.

Leif Nordgren was third in 43:21.
