A photograph from the Dec. 31, 1970, edition of the Portland Evening Express offers a view of the ski slope that once operated near Gorham village through the ski area’s warming-hut window. The accompanying caption explained that “with the snow base at an unprecedented total for December, the slope has been a popular spot since it opened for the season Dec. 19.”

Gorham’s ski area no longer exists, but a similar spot – Powderhouse Hill, pictured here on the evening of Jan. 20, 2016 – still operates in South Berwick.
