The Portland City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved rebuilding the Fred P. Hall Elementary School, sending the $29.7 million project to voters on April 5.

The state has agreed to fund all but $1.4 million of the project.

Councilor Ed Suslovic said there will be a special election on the project because of a crunched construction timeline.

He said the state will cover the cost of the election, which could be one of three in three months in the city.

However, Suslovic said, the school budget referendum vote may be pushed from May to the June primary.
