LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Damion Lee scored 24 points, including two free throws with 8.3 seconds remaining, to help No. 19 Louisville upset No. 2 North Carolina 71-65 on Monday night, ending the Tar Heels’ 12-game winning streak.
After scoring just six points in Saturday’s loss to then-No. 11 Virginia, Lee lifted the Cardinals to a hard-fought victory over the first-place Tar Heels by making 8 of 12 shots, including consecutive 3-pointers that helped provide a 55-50 lead with 9:35 remaining.
HOUSTON 71, (12) SMU 68: Devonta Pollard scored 23 points as the Cougars (16-6, 6-4 American Athletic) rallied for an upset win at home.
Nic Moore had 16 points for SMU (19-2, 8-2).
NOTES
MAINE: Freshman forward Issac Vann was named the America East Rookie of the Week.
Vann’s second Rookie of the Week honor comes after averaging 11 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 blocks.
Vann’s three-game week saw him shoot 12 of 15 from the free- throw line, including his second career double-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in a 74-63 win over Binghamton on Jan. 30.
POLL: For the first time in more than eight years, Duke is not in The Associated Press Top 25.
The Blue Devils are 15-6 and have lost 4 of 5, including two home games. The record run is UCLA’s 221 straight polls from 1966-80.
Oklahoma is 18-2 and is No. 1 for the third straight week. North Carolina is 19-2 and stays second, with 20 No. 1 votes.
Villanova jumps three places to third and is followed in the top 10 by Maryland, Iowa, Xavier, Kansas, Texas A&M, Virginia and Michigan State.

BEANPOT: Zach Sanford and Colin White scored power-play goals in the second period to lift Boston College (18-4-4) to a 3-2 win over Harvard (12-5-3) in the opening round at Boston.
In the second semifinal, Boston University (15-7-4) earned a 3-1 win over Northeastern (9-13-4) to advance to the final Feb. 8 against Boston College.

(3) NOTRE DAME 68, DUKE 61: Madison Cable scored 18 points as visiting Notre Dame won its 14th straight.
Freshman Arike Ogunbowale added 16 points and Brianna Turner had 12 for the Fighting Irish (21-1, 9-0 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Rebecca Greenwell had 16 points to lead the Blue Devils (16-7, 5-4).
(7) OHIO STATE 80, ILLINOIS 70: Ameryst Alston scored 24 points and Kelsey Mitchell had 22 as the visiting Buckeyes (17-4, 9-1 Big Ten) won their fifth straight.
SYRACUSE 57, (16) MIAMI 51: Alexis Peterson scored 10 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter for the Orange’s first road win against a ranked opponent since the 2013-14 season.
POLL: The top of the poll remains constant with UConn still the unanimous No. 1 choice.
The Huskies easily won their two games this past week by an average of 53.5 points.
UConn plays Tulane and East Carolina before a showdown at second-ranked South Carolina next Monday.
Notre Dame, Baylor and Maryland once again round out the first five teams.
