A weak system is leaving the area this morning and brought a quick round of snow showers with minimal accumulation. There was not much in the way of snow totals as this system is starved for moisture. As the system leaves the area a quick shot of colder air will move through and temperatures will be slightly below normal Monday. After this shot of cold air moves east, temperatures will recover quite nicely and run above normal for much of the rest of the week.

As the week progresses, high pressure will push offshore and provide a return flow to the region. If this was summer, we would be looking at hazy, hot and humid condtions. This time of year with the sun is so weak, temperatures will get warmer, but only in the upper 30s and lower 40s. This pattern looks to continue not only through next week but into the following one. Even though it will be mild the next 7-10 days, it doesn’t mean that there won’t be a day that ends up colder than the previous one. For example, tomorrow will be quite chilly with highs mostly in the 20s.

Another aspect of the weather this week is that the air won’t be overall as dry as the past week. What this means, is that there is more moisture in the air so that humidity levels in your house won’t be as low. If chapped lips and dry skin are a common winter problem for you, then you should have some relief this week.  Keep those humidifiers going however as it will still be on the dry side when you heat the air in your house.

There is going to be some very cold air building in Canada during through mid-month. Most of the computer models are taking this cold air to the west of New England. I do see some colder air trying to move into the area after the middle of the month, but no prolonged cold that lasts for weeks at time.

Gardening This week’s video talks about soil compaction. If you have an area of your lawn that won’t grow grass very well or a tree that isn’t performing, the issue might be soil compaction. Take a look at this video and see how soil compaction can be fixed.
