David L. Blackwell Sr.
BRUNSWICK – David L. Blackwell Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on Friday Oct. 24, 2025, at his granddaughter’s home, Jennifer Blackwell, in Topsham, where he was cared for and surrounded by family.
He was born on Aug. 14, 1939 in Harpswell, a son of George and Phyllis (Smith) Blackwell. David was one of 10 children. He attended school in Cundy’s Harbor.
He moved to New Jersey early in life where he worked on building the George Washington Bridge. He also met his first wife, Barbara (Jordan) Bailey. They had two children, one son, David Blackwell Jr. and one daughter, Bonnie Day. They then moved to Maine where they had a second daughter, Cheryl Blackwell.
He was a heavy equipment operator most of his life and he retired from B.I.W. in 2001.
David was predeceased by his four sisters, Sharon, Barbara, Sylvia, and Marion and four brothers, George, Dennis, Leon, Maurice.
He is survived by his son, David Blackwell Jr. and spouse Lisa and a daughter, Bonnie Day and spouse Jeffrey Day, and daughter, Cheryl Blackwell; a long time friend, Peggy Hinman; one brother, Bob Blackwell; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Baptist Church Growstown Cemetery, Church Road, in Brunswick.
