John G. Oddy III
KENNEBUNK – John G. Oddy, III, affectionately known to many as “Jack” or “Johnny Ace” of Kennebunkport, passed away on Oct. 21, 2025 at the age of 67. Born on Aug. 15, 1958, in Methuen, Mass., John was the beloved son of the late John G. Oddy, Jr., and Joan Oddy, who survives him.
Soon after his birth, John was brought to his family summer home in Biddeford Pool, a place that would become central to his life, his work, and his passions. From a young age, he developed a deep appreciation for the history and beauty of the family properties originally built by his grandparents. That enduring connection shaped much of how he lived his life – rooted in family, community and hard work.
John was the proud owner and operator of two successful Ace Hardware stores with his wife: the first in Cape Porpoise, and later a second in Kennebunk. Through these businesses, he built far more than a livelihood – he built lasting relationships. Many of his longtime customers became close friends. Those who knew John knew that his dedication to service extended beyond the stores’ walls – he cared deeply for the people around him and was always ready with a helping hand.
Caring for the Biddeford Pool properties remained one of John’s greatest passions throughout his life. He took immense pride in maintaining them – not simply for their beauty but for the legacy they represented. To him, they were more than buildings and land – they were symbols of family history and continuity, built with love and preserved through generations.
John had an unmatched enthusiasm for holidays and family gatherings. Thanksgiving dinners, summer cookouts, and Christmas mornings were always made special by his presence and his knack for bringing people together. His kindness, humor and generosity extended well beyond his immediate family, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife, Diane Oddy; his mother, Joan Oddy; sister, Jill Norton and husband Dave, brother, Jeff and wife Lisa; son, Sean Oddy and wife Michelle, daughter, Kaitlyn Silke and husband Zack; grandson, Mason; many beloved nieces and nephews; and by many friends who became like family over the years.
He was preceded in death by his father, John G. Oddy, Jr.
Per John’s wishes there will not be a formal funeral but the family will hold visiting hours on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk.
The family would like to extend thanks to Hospice of Southern Maine staff and the staff of Kennebunk Emergency Services who helped John and guided his family through the end of life.
