Robert Ernest “Andy” Becker

SCARBOROUGH – Robert Ernest “Andy” Becker, 96, passed away peacefully on Sept. 20, 2025, in Scarborough. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, he will be remembered for his deep love of family, his service to country, his love for a good prank, his pugs, Oldies music, his love for candy and the many other joys that filled his life.

Born on Oct. 25, 1928 in Winchendon Mass., Andy served proudly in the United Sates Navy for 21 years in the field of cryptology. His career took him and his family around the world, with postings in Cuba, Germany, Maryland, Washington D.C. and Hawaii, before retiring in Boston, Mass. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to education and community through his work at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

For 73 years, Andy was a dedicated member of the Masons and Shriners, giving his time and heart to their work. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve Association, remaining connected to the bonds of service that meant so much to him.

Beyond his accomplishments, Andy was known for the things that made him the happiest; the loyal company of his many beloved pugs, the always-full candy jar beside his chair (that his grandkids loved), his green thumb; especially his beautiful geraniums he tended to year after year, his silly humor, ice cream with jimmies, magical summers spent at Crescent Lake and Peabody Pond, and the devoted love he had for his family.

He is survived by his daughters Roanne and (Joe) Fortin of Bristol, Janet and (Jason) Burns of Tampa, Fla. and Sebago, and Suellyn and (Michael) Shannon of Morganton, Ga. Also survived by his grandchildren Jeffrey and (Rachel) Fortin of Saunderstown, R.I., Russell and (Ellen) Fortin of Linden, Mich., Gregory and (Lauren) Fortin of Canton, Conn., Andrea and (Adam) Virgili of Oldsmar, Fla., Alex and (Rachael Cina) Burns of Boston, Kate and (Trebor) Marple of Canton, Ga. He is survived by his great-grandchildren William and Christopher Fortin, Jordan and Addie Fortin, Haley Fortin, Gavin, Graham and Gwen Virgili, Nora and Owen Cina-Burns, Emma and Evan Seago, Tate Marple, Liam Maxwell and Dawson Moore; and great-great grandchildren, Zackary and Eliot Seago.
