NEW YORK — Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes scored in the first period, and the New York Rangers beat the St. Louis Blues 6-3 on Thursday night for their seventh straight victory.
J.T. Miller, Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi also scored for New York.
Dmitrij Jaskin, Vladimir Tarasenko and Troy Brouwer scored for St. Louis, which had won three in a row.
New York and St. Louis entered ranked first and third, respectively, in the NHL in goals against per game. But the first of their two meetings this season was a wild affair.
LIGHTNING 3, FLAMES 1: Steven Stamkos scored a go-ahead power-play goal in the third period, Ben Bishop stopped a personal five-game losing streak and Tampa Bay beat visiting Calgary.
Brian Boyle and Tyler Johnson also scored for the Lightning.
Bishop, who made 30 saves, had given up just eight goals during his skid.
CAPITALS 5, FLYERS 2: Jason Chimera had two goals and an assist to lead the Capitals past the slumping Flyers at Philadelphia.
Washington’s Alex Ovechkin remained one goal shy of becoming the top Russian-born goal scorer in NHL history. He had a goal disallowed in the second after an officials’ review determined that Justin Williams was offside on the play.
SABRES 3, PANTHERS 2: Cody Franson scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period, Sam Reinhart added a power-play goal early in the third and the improving Sabres held off host Florida.
Brian Gionta also scored for the Sabres. Rookie Linus Ullmark stopped 36 shots during his fifth start in six games.
WILD 3, HURRICANES 2: Jason Zucker scored his second goal of the game with 1:10 left in overtime, giving Minnesota a win at Raleigh, North Carolina.
Minnesota had to kill off an overtime power play to set up the winner.
Thomas Vanek scored the other Minnesota goal, and Devan Dubnyk stopped 37 shots.
SENATORS 3, CANUCKS 2: Bobby Ryan and Chris Wideman had power-play goals, Erik Karlsson also scored, and Ottawa won at home.
Andrew Hammond made 33 saves for the Senators.
Sven Baertschi and Alexander Edler scored and Ryan Miller made 22 saves for Vancouver.
MAPLE LEAFS 2, PREDATORS 1: Peter Holland scored the only goal in a five-round shootout to give Toronto a win at Nashville. Tyler Bozak scored in the third period for the Maple Leafs, and James Reimer turned aside all five Nashville attempts in the tiebreaker.
DEVILS 3, BLACKHAWKS 2: Sergey Kalinin scored a power-play goal with 2:27 left and New Jersey won at Chicago for its second victory over the defending champions in a week.
NOTES
RED WINGS: Detroit signed forward Justin Abdelkader a seven-year contract extension worth nearly $30 million, keeping him off the free agent market next summer.
The 28-year-old Abdelkader was drafted by Detroit in the second round in 2005.
Abdelkader, who is from Muskegon, Michigan, scored 23 goals last year, more than doubling his previous best of 10 goals, and had a career-high 44 assists.
