Wallace Crowell
STANDISH – Wally Crowell, 89, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025. He was born June 7, 1936, and raised in Plymouth, Mass. Following high school graduation he excelled to a higher education earning a bachelor’s degree from Brown University in 1958.
A Veteran, Wally served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961 stationed at the 113th Counter Intelligence Corps in Chicago, Ill., with Military Intelligence. Honorably discharged as a Specialist 5th Class – E5 in 1961.
He married Lissa (Phyllis Dorrler of Bay Shore, Long Island, N.Y.) on May 7, 1960. Wally and Lissa celebrated 65 loving years of marriage this past May.
They relocated to Maine in 1961 where Wally joined Union Mutual Life Insurance Company / now Unum Insurance, until his retirement in 1995. Throughout his tenure he had many wonderful friendships.
In 1979, he was accepted into the American MENSA Society.
Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his years of fatherly love honored. He was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dad had a quick wit, a dry sense of humor, and enjoyed joking around. He also found solitude and simplicity in nature: mountain climbing, hiking, boating on Sebago Lake, canoeing the Saco River, area lakes, and Panther Pond, and found freedom when windsurfing.
Wally is survived by his wife, Lissa; their four children, eight grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Son, Burt Crowell and wife Diane with Sarah and Alex; daughter, Chris Vaillancourt with Ryan, Cody and Meghan; son, Matthew Crowell; daughter, Heather Rondeau and husband Bob with their family Conchobhar Mercer, Chelsea and Jason Tarr with Benjamin and Lucas, and Kelly and Cody Beckett; along with extended family from New England down the east coast to Florida and in Illinois and California.
We find comfort in knowing Dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later time.
