Sydney Brunelle notched a hat trick and Ava Martin scored the final two goals as Cheverus completed a 5-1 win over Thornton Academy in a Class A South field hockey game Wednesday in Saco.
Brunelle struck twice in the first quarter, with the opening goal resulting from a penalty corner.
Thornton (2-3) cut into the deficit on a goal by Cora Bolduc with just 1.1 seconds left in the first half.
Brunelle answered in the third quarter, then Martin rounded out the scoring as Cheverus improved to 3-0-1.
NOBLE 4, MARSHWOOD 0: The Knights (4-1) got goals from Leah Randall, Alyssa Plante, Mia Smith and Maddie Thompson in a win over the Hawks (2-3) at North Berwick.
Lauren Merchant recorded the shutout, making four saves. Marshwood’s Makayle Coy stopped seven shots.
YARMOUTH 8, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Maya Nasveschuk and Erica O’Connor combined for five goals and six assists as the Clippers (4-0) routed the Raiders (1-3) in Fryeburg.
Nasveschuk finished with a hat trick and two assists, while O’Connor collected two goals and four assists. Vivienne Corriveau, Madison Wiles and Celia Smith also scored, and Celia Zinman had three assists.
WINDHAM 5, PORTLAND/DEERING 0: Sarah Smyth scored two goals to help the Eagles (4-1) roll past Portland/Deering (0-5) at Windham.
Peyton Archibald, Mia Kri and Morgan McClain also scored, with McClain and Abby Trainor each adding an assist.
Emma Walsh of the Bulldogs stopped 24 shots.
BIDDEFORD 2, SANFORD 2: Reese Beaudoin of Sanford (3-1-1) tied the game with 38 seconds left in regulation, and the Spartans played to a draw against visiting Biddeford (2-0-2).
Beaudoin also assisted on a first-quarter goal by Ella Tederous. Hailey Burke and Mia Mariello scored for Biddeford, both set up by Corinne Ramunno.
Sanford goalie Evelyn Cole finished with 21 saves. Biddeford’s Mariah Villandry stopped 17 shots.
MT. ARARAT 3, EDWARD LITTLE 1: The Eagles (3-1-1) scored three times in the first half en route to a victory over the Red Eddies (2-4) in Auburn.
Maddy Sweet and Krystah Coen scored in the first quarter and Avery Elliot had a goal in the second.
Grace Roy set up Mackenzie Joler in the fourth quarter for Edward Little’s only goal.
Eagles goalie Jaymie Bergman stopped nine shots. Arabella Harris made six saves for the Red Eddies.
CONY 1, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Helen Dineen netted the lone goal for the Rams (2-2) in a win over the Eagles (2-3) in Augusta.
Courtney Ramage stopped five shots for the shutout, while Lincoln’s James Neptune-Benner turned aside 17 shots.
Kennedy Dube added an assist for Cony.
GIRLS SOCCER
CHEVERUS 2, SANFORD 0: Olivia Vigue put the Stags (2-2) in front late in the first half, Rachel LaSalle converted a penalty kick shortly after halftime, and Cheverus shut out the Spartans (1-3) in Portland.
Taylor Hoglund assisted on Vigue’s goal.
WESTBROOK 4, BIDDEFORD 0: Ava Bolden netted the first two goals, and Ida Huntley finished with a goal and two assists as the Blue Blazes (3-0) defeated the Tigers (0-4) in Biddeford.
Hattie Clark was the other goal scorer. Leianna Nguyen and Audrey Doolittle each had an assist.
WINDHAM 4, MARSHWOOD 0: The Eagles (2-1) scored two goals in each half and pulled away from the Hawks (1-3) at Windham.
Marley Jarvais and Denali Momot scored in the first half before Mackenzie Delewski and Bella Vassoler added goals in the second half.
Hazel Martin stopped 19 shots to help keep Marshwood in range for more than a half. Jenny Schwarz made three saves and Libby Hartwell had one for Windham.
FALMOUTH 3, PORTLAND 1: Reese Harder set up a goal and scored one of her own, and the Navigators (4-0) overcame an early deficit against the Bulldogs (0-4) in Falmouth.
Charlotte Talmadge and Hadley Perry netted first-half goals for Falmouth after Portland’s Maizie Chalmers opened the scoring.
DEERING 2, BONNY EAGLE 1: Vesta McCarroll-Christmas scored from Matilda Freeman with 6:34 remaining, lifting the Rams (2-2) over the Scots (1-3) at Portland.
After Deering took a 1-0 halftime lead on Freeman’s breakaway goal off Natalie Cameron’s through ball, Elizabeth Hamilton tied it 20 seconds after the break.
Jael Mbadu made six saves for the Rams. Keona Ingram had two stops for Bonny Eagle.
