A Windham man died Tuesday while refueling his boat, authorities say.
Windham police received a call around 4:15 p.m. about a man floating face down in Little Sebago Lake in the area of Outlet Cove Road, Mark Latti, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, said in a statement Tuesday night.
An initial investigation indicates that Allan Ryder, 78, was refueling his boat tied to a dock when vapors ignited, Latti said, and Ryder either jumped or fell into the water.
His condition at the time of entering the water remains unknown, according to the Windham police department.
Windham Fire and Rescue personnel provided medical attention, but Ryder was pronounced dead at the scene.
Windham Police Department received assistance from the Maine Warden Service, the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Cumberland County Dive Team.
The incident remains under investigation.
