Six candidates are seeking three available Gorham Town Council seats in the town election Nov. 4, Town Clerk Laurie Nordfors reported Monday.

The council candidates are Kelly Dearborn, incumbent Phil Gagnon, Charles Hamblen, Timothy O’Leary III, Samuel Purinton, and incumbent Seven Siegel. The available seats are three-year terms.

Town Council Vice Chair Rob Lavoie is not seeking reelection. “There are many reasons, but the main one is I need to spend more time with my kids and focus more on growing my business,” Lavoie told Westbrook-Gorham Now in an email Monday. “As you know, this is a thankless job, and challenging at times, but I really did enjoy the majority of it.”

School Committee hopefuls seeking a pair of available seats for three years are Jeffery Ballard, Mia Cameron, and Lowansa Tompkins.

Paulette Tateishi is the only candidate for a one-year term on the School Committee.

Members of the school panel not seeking reelection are Jaci Reynolds and Jennifer Whitehead.

Reynolds cited an illness in her family as the reason she bowed out. “I very much wanted to run and I hope to do so next year,” Reynolds said.

Whitehead said, ” I may run again in the future but for now, I am stepping down to focus more of my time on my family and business.”

The nominations for elected posts closed Sept. 4.
