Gilbert W. “Gibb” Douglass
BRIDGTON – Gilbert W. “Gibb” Douglass, 80, of West Bridgton, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at his home in West Bridgton surrounded by his family.
He was born on Dec. 21, 1944, in Bridgton, a son of Everett and Lillian (Davis) Douglass. He attended local schools, graduating from Bridgton High School.
As a young man he worked construction for a short time before being drafted in the US Army for the Vietnam War. He served with the 809 Engineering Battalion in Thailand. Shortly after his return home, he married Gloria Jean Monson in Denmark.
They made their home locally as Gibb worked doing absolutely everything over the years! He started with the Bridgton Knitting Mill and Howell Lab. He owned a couple restaurants and then was a barber in Fryeburg before going to work at JV Mold Flare. He then started Douglass & Brenchick in Fryeburg which was the business name for a company that handled propane sales, a laundromat, septic services, and an appliance store. The name later changed to Douglass & Sons to which he sold. Gibb started Fryeburg Bottled Gas, Diversified Enterprises, D&D Concrete and bought an automotive garage, C&M Repair. He got back into the restaurant business when he owned/operated the Yankee Steamer in North Windham and the Standish Diner. His last restaurant was Two Trails Diner in Standish.
Unbelievably, he found time to be involved with the Fryeburg and Standish Kiwanis Clubs and started a car club in Standish named the Two Trails Cruisers.
Gibb is survived by two sons, Dean and his longtime partner, Annie Murch of Fryeburg and Todd and his wife Lori of Bridgton; five grandchildren Scott, MacKenzie, Alexander, Boone and Brayden; four great grandchildren Bronwyn, Connor, Wyatt and Archer; his brother Everett “Sonny” Douglass of Bridgton. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Gloria on Aug. 29, 2023; siblings, Joan, Phil and Bonnie Douglass.
A time of memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home in Casco.
Condolences and tributes may be shared with his family at http://www.hallfuneralhome.net.
