Mark A. Stimson
PORTLAND – Mark A. Stimson, 99, passed away on Aug. 30, 2025, at The Birchwoods at Canco Senior Living. He was born on April 4, 1926, at the Stimson family farm on Hurricane Road in Falmouth during a Spring snowstorm, he grew up there and attended Falmouth Schools. At the age of 17, he joined the Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, participating in the Battle of Okinawa. After the Japanese surrender, he was stationed at Tsingtao, China. During the Korean War he was recalled into the Corps to serve stateside.
Trained as a professional singer, he performed throughout New England in the late ’40s and ’50s and hosted his own radio show on WGAN. Mark was also a member of the Oceanaire’s, a professional barbershop quartet. Mark and Connie had many happy years being active members of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Falmouth, and he sang in the church choir for over 50 years. Mark and Connie enjoyed their many years of travels to Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Arizona, and many times, Florida.
In 1953, Mark joined the Beecher Real Estate Agency as a salesman for 11 years and later became its vice president. He then opened in 1966, his own company, Mark Stimson Associates, which he successfully ran until his retirement in 1999. He was one of the founding members of the Maine Multiple Listing Service, past president of the Portland Board of Realtors, active in the Maine Association of Realtors, and founded the Stimson Charitable Housing Fund.
He was active in several service organizations, including the Portland Rotary Club, for which he served as president, participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program of Portland, and was a board member of The Opportunity Farm and the Salvation Army. He was a proud 33rd degree member of the Scottish Rite Masons. Mark’s family was very proud of him and his many personal and professional accomplishments.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Josephine Stimson; brothers Joseph Jr. and John and previous wife Virginia (Klain) Stimson.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Connie Stimson; daughter, Holly and her husband Bryce Hamilton; granddaughter, Mary and husband Alan Vieira; great-grandson, A.J. Vieira; as well as stepdaughters Kim and her husband Ron Vincent, Kathy and her husband Mike Taylor, Kristina Hilton; grandsons David Johnson Jr. and Chad Taylor.
A special “Thank You” to the entire staff at the Birchwood’s at Canco – Mark, Connie, and family couldn’t praise them enough for the wonderful care and attention they gave him at all times.
A private family committal will be held at a later date. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
