Michael Thomas Daley

YARMOUTH – Michael Thomas Daley, 73, of Yarmouth, passed away suddenly on Aug. 8, 2025, at Maine Medical Center. Mike was born to Thomas and Anita Daley on Jan. 1, 1952, at 2:27 a.m. as the first baby of the New Year in Lewiston-Auburn, Maine.

During grade school Mike moved with the family to Portland, where he attended local schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1971. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1976. With a taste for travel, Mike explored several Western European countries and attended the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria.

Following his service, Mike traveled throughout the U.S. and lived in California. He eventually returned to Maine and settled in Westbrook. He was employed at S.D. Warren Paper Mill where he remained for the majority of his working life. Notably dependable, Mike rarely missed a day of school or a day of work.

Mike had a passion for the music of his generation and a devotion to progressive causes. He also enjoyed physical fitness, including biking and skiing. He was a gentle soul, a devoted son, brother, uncle, and a loyal friend. Mike’s generosity extended beyond the family to those less fortunate. Carrying the unique Daley sense of humor, he especially enjoyed stories shared around the table at holidays. Mike was also known for his hardy appetite; he seldom turned down an invitation to a family gathering and could always be counted on to take home leftovers.

Mike is survived by his father, Thomas Daley; his sisters Janice Daley and husband Frank Guidi, Jr., Susan Keen and husband Nicholas, and Diane Donaldson and husband Gary; as well as nephews Tim, Matt, Ryan and Justin and niece, Jillian. He is also survived by four great-nieces, a great-nephew; and a dear friend, Helen Johnson.

He was predeceased by his mother, Anita Pontbriand Daley.

Anyone wishing to pay their respects is invited by the family to visiting hours at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd. in South Portland, on Monday, Sept. 8, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
