Jane Ellen Bailey
SOUTH PORTLAND – Jane Ellen Bailey, 74, passed away peacefully on Aug. 18, 2025.
Jane was born in Lincoln to Glendon and Edna (Morgan) Bailey. Jane grew up “across the tracks” in Millinocket, She was a 1968 graduate of Stearns High School in Millinocket and a 1970 graduate of Husson College in Bangor. For 40 years, she worked as a legal secretary at Pierce Atwood where she made many lifelong friends.
Jane loved Llasa Apso and Pekinese dogs and was never without one or two in her life. She was known for the holiday ‘spreads’ she would put on for family and friends – she loved nothing more than a house full of company. Jane will be remembered for her generosity and her willingness to provide shelter for friends and acquaintances when they fell on hard times. It would not be fitting to fail to mention her lifelong love for Elvis Presley – although she never forgave him for dying the day before she was to attend his concert in Portland. In later years, her activities were limited due to illnesses, but she continued to fight for her independence until the end.
Jane was predeceased by her mother, Edna (Morgan) Bailey, her father, Glendon Bailey; and a brother, Robert Bailey.
She is survived by her brother, Douglas of Portland; four cousins; a nephew; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolence messages can be submitted at the Poitras Funeral Homes website, http://www.mainefuneral.com
