Marjorie Paula Bogh Sponsler

NEW CANEY, Texas – Marjorie Paula Bogh Sponsler, 79, passed away peacefully from natural causes on August 22, 2025, in New Caney, Texas.

Born on Jan. 19, 1946, in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of Edward and Mary (Flaherty) Bogh. Marjorie was a dedicated educator whose entire career was devoted to public schools. She served as a teacher, librarian, and guidance counselor, spending the majority of her career in the Windham School Department. Marjorie was deeply committed to supporting her students and fostering a love of learning.

Marjorie grew up on Munjoy Hill, right on the water. She graduated from Portland High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Colby College, followed by a Master’s degree in Guidance from the University of Southern Maine. Beyond her professional life, Marjorie was an active member of her community, serving as president of the College Club for many years.

She cherished time spent with her family, enjoyed long walks, and was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox and Celtics. Marjorie had a deep appreciation for art and art history and often spoke about how much she enjoyed her time in Florence, Italy, when she was in college. She also loved music and attended several performances by the Portland Symphony. Last October, she relocated to Texas to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Sponsler Blanco (John) and Kathleen Sponsler Jones of Texas; her sisters, Constance DiCesare of Texas and Anne Feen (Dennis) of Massachusetts; her brother, Edward Bogh of Maine; five grandchildren, Joseph, Sophia, Alana, Kolby, and Miah; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A special thanks to the kind and compassionate nurses and staff at Tender Loving Care in New Caney, Texas.

A private celebration of life will be scheduled in the near future to honor Marjorie’s remarkable life and legacy.
