Maxine Eunice Lano

SOUTH PORTLAND – Maxine Eunice Lano, 81, of South Portland, passed away peacefully on Aug. 10, 2025, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Born on April 22, 1944, in Portland, Maxine spent her life close to her roots building a warm and loving home for her family in Southern Maine.

Maxine was the beloved wife of 60 years to Theodore Lano and a devoted mother to Jeffrey Lano and Robin Barnett. Her family was the center of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She welcomed Sandra Lano and Glen O’Donnell into her heart as her children-in-law and took great pride in her grandchildren, Sarah Lano, Laura Lano and Hailey O’Donnell. In recent years, she found immense joy in the presence of her great-grandchildren, Roman and Ruby Harrison, along with their father Aaron Harrison.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Stacey Wing; as well as her brothers David and Wendell Wing; and also a son-in-law, John Barnett. Her surviving brother, Philip Wing currently resides in Texas.

Maxine had an appreciation for nature and found peace in tending her flower garden. The beach held a special place in her heart and trips there hold special memories for those who were with her. A talented quilter, Maxine poured love into every stitch she made, creating lasting heirlooms that will be treasured for years to come.

Her warmth and strength touched all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

A visitation will be held on Aug. 24, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland, ME 04106, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. A burial will be held on Monday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. in Lexington.
