‘Voices from Ukraine: Stories of War and Hope’

Five Ukrainian teenagers will be performing an original theatrical production in six New England venues, beginning in York on Wednesday. “Voices from Ukraine: Stories of War and Hope” is a 40-minute musical with accounts about the ongoing Russian invasion. Stick around after the performance for a talkback session with the cast, crew and director. Proceeds will support Common Man for Ukraine, which brings humanitarian aid and trauma counseling to kids and families impacted by the war.

Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band

Americana singer-songwriter Josh Ritter has released a dozen albums since 2000. His next one, “I Believe in You, Honeydew,” has a Sept. 12 release date, so it’s likely his Portland performance will include a few new tunes, including “Honeydew” singles “You Won’t Dig My Grave” and “Truth is a Dimension (Both Invisible and Blinding.)” Ritter has also made a name for himself as an author with two published books “Bright’s Passage” and “The Great Glorious Goddamn of It All.”

Pet Rock in the Park

’76 Days Adrift’

Catch an afternoon screening of the documentary “76 Days Adrift,” the story of Mainer Steven Callahan’s two-and-a-half-month saga of being lost at sea on a six-foot inflatable lifeboat. Callahan was in the midst of a solo crossing of the Atlantic in 1982 when he collided with what may have been a whale. Callahan wrote a book about the ordeal ,which was recently made into a feature-length documentary. You’ll see interviews with Callahan, footage from 1982 and new scenes from director Joe Wein using Callahan’s original gear and a replica of his life raft. There will be a Q&A with Callahan and executive producer Robert Sennott following the screening. Proceeds benefit the Shields Fund, a local non-profit that works with social services agencies to provide financial assistance to Knox County and Lincolnville residents.

Billy Idol

Rocker Billy Idol’s current tour is called “It’s A Nice Day To…Tour Again!” and we are very here for it.  Not only does he already have a slew of hits, including “Dancing With Myself,” “Eyes Without A Face” and “Rebel Yell,” he also has a new album out called “Dream Into It.” Idol also has a very special guest opening the show: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Hearing tunes like “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” and “I Hate Myself for Loving You” will add fuel to what will already be a fiery night in Bangor.
