BRUNSWICK – Richard “Dick” G. Gowell, 81, of Brunswick, passed away at home early in the morning of July 1, 2025.
He was born on Feb 9, 1944, in Brunswick, the youngest child of Perley and Nelli Gowell. He retired from Pheonix Welding and was a Life Member of the Brunswick Elk’s Lodge #2043 that he joined in 1985.
He loved traveling, sports (especially the Patriots and Red Sox), outdoor activities and spending quality time with his family and many friends. He was a kind and generous soul always willing to volunteer for an Elk’s event that supported the community, lend a hand to family and friends and provide a shoulder to lean on and thoughtful advice. He made the effort to stay in touch with family and friends and will be sorely missed by many. Rest easy, Dad, Papa, Brother, Uncle, Friend.
He was predeceased by his parents Perley and Nelli Gowell; brother, John Gowell and sisters Barbara Baumgardner and Corrine Gowell.
Richard is survived by daughters Holly Gowell of Brunswick, Darlene, and her husband Ron Hull of Ellington Conn., and Christina and her husband Bob Frantz of Smithsburg Md.; grandchildren Briana Gowell and her fiancé Brandon Gilbert of Topsham, Jaidyn Gowell-Marshall of Pensacola Fla., Ariane and her husband Corey French of Little Rock Ark. and Daniel Frantz and his wife Jenny of Cocoa, Fla.; great-grandchildren Jaxson Gilbert and Addeline French; brother- and sister-in-law, Perley and Nancy Gowell of Brunswick, sister, Norma Floyd of Seattle, Wash..; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank medical staff at Mid Coast Hospital and Maine Medical Center Portland and Southern Maine Hospice for their incredible support during this difficult time.
A Celebration of life is planned on Aug 2, at Brunswick Elks Lodge.
