Joseph “Joe” Martin
ARCHDALE, NC – Joseph “Joe” Elie Roland Martin, 87, died Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Atrium-Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
He was born May 15, 1938, in Brunswick, Maine, and was the son of the late Ovila Evariste and Irene Claire Helie Martin. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, and then worked for the federal government, retiring from the Brunswick Naval Institute following 38 years of service. Joe was a hard worker and worked at Hannoford Store as a part-time driver. He was a long-time resident of Brunswick, Maine, and relocated to Mocksville, NC, after retirement and eventually to Archdale where he attended Archdale Methodist Church. Riding his scooter brought him much joy and he also liked shag dancing and loved music. Joe loved people in general but especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose-Anne Pinnett.
Joe is survived by his wife, Ranell “Raye” Cagle Love-Martin, whom he married on Dec. 13, 2014; two daughters, Tammy Graves of Harpswell, Maine, and Michelle Wilson (Dennis), of Lisbon, Maine; stepson, Joel Love (Denise) of Tracy City, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Derek Graves, Kelsey Graves, Cassie Graves, Brandon Swift and Nicole Keech; six step-grandchildren, Ally Love (Justin Mondul), Trey Culler (Sarah), Jordan Culler, Sean Burkett (Montana), Zach Burkett (Malena), and Brett Burkett (Abby); ten great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Maynard of Brunswick, Maine, and Suzanne Toothacher of Topsham, Maine; brother, Evariste Ovila “Marty” Martin (Linda) of Mocksville; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Ronnie.
Memorial service celebrating Joe’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Pastor Mike Lee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Committal service will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery in Salisbury,
