Craig Allen Lane
BATH – Craig Lane, 73, passed peacefully on May 29, 2025. He was born August 17, 1951, in Bath, Maine, the son of Dana T. and Jeanette (Craige) Lane.
He went to Bath schools, and graduated from Morse High School, Class of 1969. He grew up playing Little League baseball, with his dad and uncle as coaches. At Morse, Craig played Varsity Basketball, Varsity Baseball and attended Boys State. His love of sports continued at the University of Maine, Orono, where he played baseball his freshman year. He was a member
of the Phi Eta Kappa Fraternity.
After college, Craig played men’s slow pitch softball for many years, as a pitcher. Craig loved sports in general, but most of all loved yelling at the Red Sox (“what a bunch of bums”), regardless of their standing!
In 1983 he married Betsy Armstrong, and together they had two children, Chelsea and Duncan. They lived in Georgetown for 30+ years and owned and operated Camp Seguin, a small campground by Reid State Park. With his dad, his vision and craftsmanship improved and expanded the campground, and it became a favorite among many visitors, who returned year after year. Years after the campground closed, campers visiting Reid would see Craig and Betsy on their walk, and always remark on how much they miss that wonderful spot.
Craig retired from BIW in 2019 after 44 years in maintenance, working in HVAC. Many family members have a furnace or water heater installed by Craig, who also took his tools on vacation when he visited his sister in Virginia, to help repair a heat pump. He loved to fix and improve anything he could get his hands on. Through the 33 years they lived in Georgetown, Craig did all the renovations to his home.
He is survived by his sister Gail and husband Rick Woods of Midlothian, Va.; his wife Betsy; daughter Chelsea Lane and partner Jason Ford, son Duncan Lane and wife Ashley Lane-Doyle.
“Bup” is also survived by grandchildren Annabelle Lane (who named him), Jude Doyle, Finnley Lane-Doyle and Harper Lane-Doyle. Craig is also survived by many cousins; and eight nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to send special thanks to the amazing staff at Hillhouse Assisted Living, and to CHANS and their Hospice care. The staff at Hillhouse brought us into their family, and helped ease Craig’s final 6 months of life.
A celebration of Craig’s life will be held in July, date to be determined.
