Daniel L. Briggs

BRUNSWICK/HARPSWELL – Daniel L. Briggs, 88, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Horizons Living and Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of “the best wife ever” Judith M. “Judy” (Miller) Briggs who passed away on June 3, 2015, they shared 56 years of marriage.

Dan was born February 2, 1937, in Pontiac, Michigan. He is the son of the late Chester “Chet” and Theodora (Lawton) Briggs. Dan and Judy resided on Cundy’s Harbor Road for many years.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1956 and was part of the anti- sub warfare. He retired from the Navy in 1975. After his retirement from the Navy, Dan began working as a deck hand shrimping from 1975-1976. He worked building houses from 1976-1979. In April 1979 Dan began a career at Bath Iron Works where he worked for 16 years and retired as Assistant Foreman Department 19, the electric shop.

As a young man Dan was involved with the Boy Scouts, he was an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow.

Dan loved hunting and fishing his whole life. He was an avid bowler from the age of 18 to 65. He was also active with Cundy’s Harbor Fire Department from 1975 to 1993.

Dan is survived by his three outstanding and loving children, Lisa Briggs-Williams and her husband Dale of Bowdoin, Rick Briggs and his wife Janice of Goffstown, N.H., and Craig Briggs of York. He is also survived by his brother Jim Briggs and his wife Judy, his eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Judy and his parents Dan is predeceased by his brother David Briggs.

Dan’s graveside service with military honors will be held at Cranberry Horn Cemetery, East Harpswell on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Stetson’s Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, Maine.
