Evelyn Louise Libby

SCARBOROUGH – Evelyn Louise Libby, 90, of Scarborough, formerly of Wellington, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, in Portland, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on Nov. 1, 1934, in Wellington to Howard and Mary Sinclair, Evelyn led a full and meaningful life rooted in family, community, and compassion. In her younger years, she made a name for herself as a sulky driver in the late 1960s and early 1970s—an adventurous and bold role for a woman of her time. She later worked alongside her family, running the office at Urquhart’s Hardware and Oil, and concluded her career as the office manager at Lynch Chiropractic, where she served with dedication until retirement.

Evelyn spent much of her life at her favorite family homestead in

Aroostook County on Wytopitlock Lake, where she enjoyed boating, 4-wheeling, and snowmobiling with her family and many dear friends. It was a place of joy, adventure, and connection—just like Evelyn herself.

She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Arnold E. Libby; and their six children, Theresa (Dan) Litchfield, Bradley Libby, Suellen Litchfield, Edward (Teresa) Libby, Deanne (Douglas) Norton, and Gary Libby. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren, Travis, Jesse, Lauren, Ryan, Andrew, Shane, Kara, Jenna, and Lydia; 16 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Amanda, Jordan, Seth, Danyele, Marissa, Maya, Abbie, Evelyn, Amelia, Hannah, Callie, William, Walker, Samuel, and Chloe; and two great-great-granddaughters, Serafina and Mackenzie.

She is also survived by her sister, Madeline Grant; along with many beloved nieces, nephews; cousins; in-laws; and lifelong friends.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Mary Sinclair; her brothers Dale Sinclair and Joseph Sinclair; and her granddaughter, Heather.

Evelyn will be remembered most for her warm heart, generous spirit, and deep devotion to her family. She was the heart of every gathering and the guiding light to those who loved her. Her sense of humor, her strength, and her unconditional love will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

Per Evelyn’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date.

We say goodbye to the best mother, grandmother, Gigi, and friend—whose legacy of love lives on in all of us.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Evelyn’s memory to your local Animal Refuge League—an organization she deeply cherished and supported.
