The Bates College women’s varsity eight earned a bronze medal, and the Bobcats finished fourth overall at the NCAA Division III rowing championships Saturday in West Windsor, New Jersey.
With a crew of Cal Dagner, Maggie Gill, Isabelle Martin, Greta Oberdiek, Quinn Gleason, Olivia Szachta, Olivia Smith, stroke Hannah Burdick and coxswain Hannah Herbst, Bates competed the 2,000-meter course in 6 minutes, 40.562 seconds. Tufts, which repeated as the overall champion, won the race in 6:37.686, and Williams was the runner-up in 6:39.214.
Earlier Saturday, Bates placed fourth in the second varsity eight with a time of 6:54.407.
MEN’S ROWING: Bates took third place behind New England Small College Athletic Conference rivals Trinity and Tufts in the varsity eight race at the IRA National Championship in Camden, New Jersey.
The Bobcats finished in 5 minutes, 45.520 seconds, with a team that included Erik Lindholm, Sean Christiansen, Luke Johnson, Ben Auerbach, Oliver Firmenich, Charles Renvyle, George Fauver, stroke Luke Desmaison and coxswain Darien Chiang.
Colby also qualified for the grand final and finished sixth in 6:09.100.
