First County Foundation board members recently toured York County Government’s two building projects – a first responder training center and a substance use recovery center – under construction on Layman Way in Alfred. The foundation, according to a news release, is the charitable arm of the county government, and looks to help fill in the gaps – from equipping a kitchen to supplying beds for the recovery center – through fundraising. The steel has been hung for the training center and the footings for the recovery center will soon be installed. Attending the tour, from left, were Senior Project Manager Tim Sommers and Superintendent Steve LaPointe, of Landry French Construction; First County Foundation Chair Billy Shore, who also serves with the Kennebunkport Fire Department, along with foundation board member and Kennebunk police officer Candice Simeon; and foundation board member and Sanford Housing Authority Executive Director Diane Small.
