Jo Ann “Jan” Noble Murray
BATH – Jo Ann “Jan” Noble Murray, 86, of Bath, peacefully passed away on March 15, 2025, at the Plant Memorial Home after bravely facing the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. Her life was marked by unwavering dedication to her family, a deep commitment to her faith, and a vibrant spirit that touched all who knew her.
Born on June 8, 1938, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to W. Alvin Noble and Mary Emily Hughes Noble, Jan grew up in Naugatuck, Connecticut, where she formed the foundation of her lifelong values. She graduated from Naugatuck High School, leaving a legacy of kindness and community spirit.
Jan’s heart found its greatest joy in raising her three sons in Middlebury, Connecticut. Her summers were spent creating cherished memories at Popham Beach, Maine, a place that held a special piece of her soul. Upon retiring in 2004, she made Popham Beach her permanent home.
Her professional life was a testament to her dedication to spiritual growth and community. Jan served with profound passion as the Director of Religious Education for the Episcopal Diocese of Waterbury, Connecticut, shaping the lives of many. Her contributions to St. George’s Episcopal Church in Middlebury, Connecticut, were immeasurable. Notably, she co-founded the beloved Gingerbread Village, a tradition that continues to bring joy to the community each year, a testament to her creative spirit and desire to bring people together.
Jan’s memory will be forever cherished by her son, Bruce Murray; her dear daughter-in-law, Suzanne (Suzy) Murray; her step-grandchildren, Brandon Darling and Lindsey Darling-Prager; and her three step-great-grandchildren, Kendall, Reese, and Logan. She was predeceased by her beloved sons, Craig and Andrew Murray, and her former husband, Glenn Murray.
A memorial service to celebrate Jan’s life will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Middlebury, Connecticut, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 3, 2025. A second service, honoring her connection to Maine, will be held at the Popham Chapel in Phippsburg, Maine, this summer, with details to be announced.
