The world’s first and largest electric railway museum is looking for new volunteers to join its ranks. Seashore Trolley Museum recently held a new volunteer open house and encouraged those interested to learn more about the seasonal and year-round volunteer opportunities available. The campus is located at 195 Log Cabin Road in Kennebunkport.

In anticipation of the start of trolley operations during its 86th season, the museum seeks new volunteer trolley conductors and operators for the museum’s electric heritage railway.
According to a news release, volunteers “will learn a unique, new skill and help the world’s largest transit museum provide an awesome experience for guests during their 2025 season and beyond. Seashore Trolley Museum is recruiting new conductors to begin observing trained crew on either Tuesday, May 6, May 20 and June 3 or Saturday May 10, May 24 and June 7.”
New volunteers will be paired with an experienced, knowledgeable instructor who will demonstrate the ins and outs of the museum’s history and the museum’s transit collection, how to safely board guests on the trolleys, and how the railroad works and is operated. Upon successful completion of the observation period, and if interested, new volunteers will learn to operate the trolleys with a seasoned operator.
To be eligible to conduct and operate the museum’s trolleys, volunteers must become members of the museum, be 18 years or older, and hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license from their state of residence.
According to trolley museum officials, the course fills up fast and early registration is suggested.
For more information, or to sign up, fill out the museum’s online volunteer application at trolleymuseum.org/volunteer or call 207-967-2800, ext. 104, or email volunteer@trolleymuseum.org.
